Tekong

Today is the day where my baby bro finally has to serve the nation.

The silly boy only started to pack his stuff in the morning. -_-"

I had to wear my new shoes lor. '"-____-"'
How come? Cause stated in the letter is no shorts, singlets, bermudas, slippers or sandals.
Didn't know if that applied to those ladies sandals but better not take the chance.
My one opportunity to set foot onto Tekong. I don't wish to be turned away.

So we took a cab.
This is my last shot taken with the baby. After today, he would be in the process of becoming a man.

Reached the pick up point and had to register with them. The first order they got was to tuck in their shirt. That made those enlistees look damn nerd lor. Especially those who wore the checkered collar shirt with sport shoes. Got those mummy's boy look.

I think the boat stinks. But never mind. After being in there enclosed for a while, my nose gets numb to the stench.

Upon arrival, I thought I was in another part of Bintan. The place looks like some holiday resort. Then they still have the 'Welcome To Pulau Tekong' sign painted on the wall.
Too bad they don't provide fruit punch and give everyone a garland to wear.
But at least they did give a goodie bag with mineral water, tissue paper, oreo and cheese biscuits.
Practical items mah.. Walk till thirsty, drink water. Walk hungry, eat biscuits. Walk till its time to leave, cry lor, then use tissue. Fwahh.. They sure put some thoughts into what they give.

Toured around the place. Saw their bunks and I'm damn impressed with the beds can? The mattress is those good quality kind which still has spring and the top layer is quite spongy. Really like resort right? Need I say more?

We saw this other group of recruits. They were those which fall under the obese category so they are suppose to go in few weeks earlier. Then the tour guide was telling us that most of them are more than 100kg. One guy after going in to the army, lost 60kg. 60kg leh!!! 60 freaking kg! So as they say, tekong is a one stop stay in slimming centre. Probably more effective then those slimming centres which pay millions for advertisements or to get a celebrity to endorse their centre.
The best deal? They are paid, fed, clothed and sheltered. Where to find such great deal sia?
Can I go too? Hahaha...

Then there was a video presentation and oath taking ceremony. The solemn event was followed up by meal sampling.
They gave us chicken rice. But it wasn't fantastic.

The tour ended after that. We took the ferry back. Wah liao... This ferry was even more stinky! Even sitting there for like 5 minutes, I still couldn't get used to the smell. A rancid smell like someone vomitted. Ewwwww! I even had to spray a bit of perfume on my hands and breathe so as to filter the smell.
Yes... The smell was that bad!

I was expecting people to make use of the tissue to wipe tears leh. I only see people using it to wipe mouth after meal sampling.
Perhaps its because the place looks so resort like, there is a peace of mind that their loved one is staying there.
Maybe its because unlike other batches which has to be confined for 2 weeks, they are allowed to come out after like 3 days due to the Hari Raya public holiday. So people may think.. Bahhh whats 3 days? Its just like going holiday with friends.

Came home and wanted to rest. But then, I needed to collect the Sentosa card from aunt. So off I went to meet her for dinner as well. Yeh.. Another colleague managed to help me sign for the card. So plans are back on track again.

Ohh and I bought 2 new sets of bedsheets. 1 of which look damn retro. Haha..
