Pigging Out In Penang

Day 1
Set off early in the morning at 7am towards JB's Senai Airport. We were ahead of schedule so the driver brought us to this shop which sells good wan tan mee. The noodles were those thin springy springy boiing boiing kind. The brew coffee using beans not powder form. Thick and aromatic.

After that headed over to the airport. Checked in and I got my ticket to pigging out with cheap and good food.

My shopping started at the airport. I bought myself this pair of shades.

The plane we're going to board. I don't know why they don't wanna use the aerobridge. Make passengers walk all the way to the plane. Ohh well... Budget air... Maybe operating the aerobridge very costly???

I felt like a giant overlooking a map of miniature houses and roads. My foot suddenly felt so big that it looks as though if I stepped on it, all will be crushed.

Clouds...

More clouds

And even more clouds...

I was bored on the plane mah...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
1 hour flight no entertainment except seeing clouds formation.

So take more and more pictures of mother nature.

Nice!

When we're about to touch down, I spotted a... rainbow!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Rainbow!!! It just felt so nice to see the rainbow. The feeling of seeing a rainbow from ground up is totally different as seeing it at eye level. Suddenly felt damn high that I started to sing the song "Rainbow Connection" Wahaha!!!

Went to the hotel but since we're still early and room wasn't ready, we ate at the nearby coffeeshop. Ordered lor mee, char kway teow, chicken without the rice, cheng t'ng to share.

Then headed back to the hotel and went up to the room. My room was a bit disappointing though. The toilet couldn't flush and the shower curtain had this chao sng smell. Anyway, called the housekeeping and the fixed the toilet but had to bear with the smell lor.

Off we go, shopping time. Along the way, we passed by the stall which sells good lor bak and popiah. Then we walked and I bought tibits and salted fish back for grandma. In the shop, they sell a lot of those preserved food. Initially I thought it was because the shop was dirty cause there were a lot of flies flying around. So I tried to shoo them when they buzzed near me. But upon closer look, I realised they were bees. Attracted to the preserved food cause its sweet. I dare not swing my hands so much already, don't wanna get stung.

Went to this place called Gurney Plaza to shop. Although we didn't have much time to shop, I still managed to get t-shirt for myself and for bro. Bought 5 pieces of cake for 4 of us to share from Secret Recipe. Heh! Cheep cheap!

Went to Gurney Drive to eat dinner. This was what the 4 of us ordered.

Top to bottom: Cockles, chee cheong fun, century egg, yam cake, otah, rojak, cuttlefish kang kong, char kway teow.
Yet to arrive at point picture was taken was the orh lua/chien (oyster omelette), satay and muah chee. All that for 4 people. Haha!
But I must say, this place looked a bit empty cause its usually packed.

The street near the hotel comes to life everynight with these roadside stalls.

Day 2
Went to eat crayfish noodles for breakfast. Ended up eating more than that. There was this Hong Kong Dim Sum restaurant next door. So we decided to try the food there.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I found the birdie so cute that I couldn't resist not ordering it. Filling is lotus paste.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Went to one of the tourist attraction called Kek Lok Si after that.
I think these statues are supposed to be monks?
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Disciples of Buddha? Possible. Cause they're all looking towards the big figure which I think is Buddha.

The pagoda from different angles.

I like the first pic best of the 3 cause of the clouds.

Some flower shots taken around the pagoda's garden.

We were allowed to ascend the pagoda. This is the first time I go up a pagoda. Those I visited in China can only be seen from below cause they were either restricted or partially destroyed. The climb up was pretty tiring. The steps were steep and narrow. But the climb was quite worth it to see this.

A scenic view of Penang.

After the descend from the pagoda, we were told that the walk up to the huge Buddha would take 25 mintues. We were quite shacked already so only willing to go up only via the inclined lift. See how steep it is???

Going up just to see this.

In this picture, I accidentally took a shot where Buddha seems to be picking nose. Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Zoom in to see...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The trip up was even nicer cause the view of Penang is even better.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Took the lift down again. See how steep it is?
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Went to see the turtles at the liberation pond. Though I don't think they have much liberty in the pond.

Then we headed down to the foot to eat the famous stall selling assam laksa.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
The boss engrossed in making bowls and bowls of laksa that he doesn't see the world pass him by.

We came back to the hotel to rest. I fell asleep cause I was kinda tired. Woken up by auntM to eat cheese cake. Since I just woke up, she placed the cake on the table next to the bed.
Ahhh... For the first time, I ate high tea in bed.
Take a bit of cake, lie back on the pillow, close eyes and wait for the cake to melt, savouring the full flavour of the cake.
Mmm... Heavenly.

After that, we went back to the chendol stall cause auntM and dad's friend got craving for it again. I skipped it knowing what dish for dinner awaits. While waiting for them to eat their chendol, I wandered off to the roadside stall to see bags. From Rm28 per bag, we bargain till Rm30 for 3 bags. Big savings eh? Anyway, I forgot we're in not in Singapore. Dad passed me a 50 note to pay. The seller shortchanged me but I didn't realised it until I passed the change back to dad. He noticed it and asked me. But I still blur blur bout it. So he went to question the seller how come he went back on his word and the seller still can say it was agreed at Rm11. Damn cunning lah but ten is so big a difference to eleven? Obviously faking it.

Dinner was great! I got to eat the lobster covered in the ooo-la-laa melted cheese
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
and the peppery black pepper crab.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

As we were walking back to the hotel, I noticed this stall's signage.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Zooming in closer and the squirrel can be seen in this very seductive pose with its finger welcoming customers. Looks a bit horny eh? Haha!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Whats up with the name of the stall? Isn't wimpy supposed to mean something like weak? Not very auspicious name eh? But then again, if its name after the owner, why would the stall owner's parents wanna give them a name like that?

Penang people are a patient bunch. The drivers won't honk you even if you are in their way. They just wait for you to move aside. The street where those road stall are need not be closed. Cars can still travel through.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Stall patrons can just stand at the stall and order their food. If they're in the way, the driver will slow down and wait for them to move when they realised it. If they are oblivious to the surroundings then they just have to wait till the hawker asks them to shift aside.

Day 3
Woke up early in the morning to go da bao the crayfish noodles back for Bros. Check out the ingredients!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Though the size of the prawns is quite pathetic, but hey, its crayfish noodles not prawn noodles. So to even see prawns is quite good. Plus there is are 2 extra meatballs and lean slices of meat. So worth buying!
Ate breakfast at dim sum restaurant again before heading back to hotel to pack and check out.

Plane taking off...

I like the lines in this picture. Can make black and white.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Should be interesting.

Journey back also 1 hour...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
So, cloud pictures to entertain myself again.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Can actually feel the plane going up and down to avoid clouds.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
But when those clouds which are too big and can't be avoided,
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
got slight turbulance.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Felt like an unthrilling roller coaster ride.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Coincidentally, we took back the same plane, same seats.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Interesting fact.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
How I know? Cause there was this dead spider trapped in the window next to my seat and the window in front of it has the same scratches. Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Plane kept on turning left right, left right.
The turn was pretty sharp. 30 degrees each time? See the plane tilted?
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Anyway, using creativity, what does this cloud's shape look like?
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
To me, it looks like a mouse cupping its mouth and shouting.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Landed and back in JB airport. I decided to buy since it can't be found in SG Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I bought 12 pieces. Check out the variety.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The chartered vehicle sent us back home. Causeway was a bit jammed. But anyway, Home Sweet Home!
