Paid To Slack

Wow! Finally got the time to come and blog after a tiring 4 days.

Thursday: First day of the event. Boss told me on Monday that it was at Suntec. So in order not to be late, I left home early, took the train there. Then boss sms, sorry sorry, the event is at Expo. Make your way here k? Late never mind.
-_-"
Not that I purposely wanted to be late. The journey was just long cause it was like making a big detour.

So a few things I found out...
It wasn't a big fair by the whole company like the last time. It was the Women's Expo and there were so many other exhibitors. I was just helping out in a booth only. Cheyyy...! Since its only 1 booth, there were only 2 full timers and me.

Such a coincidence, 1 of them, is also called Jessica and stays just 5 blocks away from me. Was nice working with them. The crowd which came to the expo was limited. So I was very free. Everyone like talking among themselves or those who were walking around were exhibitors too.

The booth beside my booth was the chairs with the OSIM iSqueeze machines there. Obviously I go and sit lah. Haha! Reminds me of attachment days when I could go play/test XBox, relax on those OSIM massage chairs and just chill.

In front of my booth was an insurance company. They were also very free. So ended up keep on talking to a few of them. Food there pretty much sucked.

There was another 2 events going on in another 2 halls. 1 was the International Halal Food Fair the other one was some furniture one.

Friday: I got nothing to do. So I decided to go give out some brochures. But that didn't help either. There were too many people standing at the door giving out leaflets and the flow of visitors was so bad that each time a visitor walked into the hall, they would be hounded by at least 4 people. Can tell that those facial/spas people were damn aggressive. They really snatch visitors from each other and try to outdo one another. Me? I just stand back and watch them snatch. Haha!

Me and Jessica were very cartoon lor. Someone came to distribute some sample stuff to us. She went to see where was it and what they sell. Came back and told me so my turn to go see cause only 2 of us at that time. I noticed they were selling nail polish and other cosmetic stuff. So I went to see see. Went back to the booth and told her bout it. She went over and came back. Total we made bout 3 trips each before buying stuff. Since we were so bored, bought the nail polish already, sit there and paint nails lor. One of the insurance agent also bored then come over and wanted to help me paint to join in the fun.

Saturday: Other colleague Noi, brought her daughters there. Met the younger daughter on the first day actually. But she was kinda shy and quiet. Today became so talkative already. Elder daughter very pretty leh got natural brown eyes and hair. *Envious* She was talkative but her mother keep on asking her to do her assessment books. Crowd sucks too, so can play with the kids.

Sunday: Slept at 1.30am and woke up at 5am to attend church before going for work. Last day of event already. Brought my allowance to buy shop shop a bit. Cause got discount mah. Crowd today was the worst cause it rained. Good lor... Slack again. The sian thing was that the insurance people keep on taking turns to use the iSqueeze machines. So I cannot sit lor until later.

Since there wasn't anybody, I went to the halal food fair to walk walk a bit. They keep on offering food samples. Bought some juice for grandma. Supposed to help lower blood pressure. Came back with 2 heavy bottles. Bought skincare products to stock up cause of the discount and bag, helped Ade to buy too. Then patronized the aunty at neighbouring booth, bought 2 packetes of those pore packs. Another insurance company approached me to do survey. After doing, I was told that I can get lucky draw. So to add on to my heavy load of stuff, I got an umbrella. The crowd was so bad that one of those slimming companies decided to just give out their bags to all the exhibitors to clear stock. Good lor, put my juice bottles. Looked so aunty cause I got 2 big bags to sling and carry umbrella. Haha!

Because of the lack of crowd and the abundance of time to kill throughout this period, one topic of talking leads to another and I suddenly exchanged a lot of numbers and collected a lot of name cards. Quite a few said if looking for job can call them. Haven't consolated the name cards yet though.

Packed stock early cause the 3 of us didn't want to stay. Ended up finishing an hour early.

Overall, even though after deducting the cost of transport, food and drinks each day, my pay is considered quite pathetic. But it was definitely a nice experience. Learnt a lot of things in these few days cause so free then keep on observing people. Haha!

Oh... Looks can be deceiving. Most people think I'm 18 leh. Not just 1 person or 2 people or even 3 people. At least 10. Tell them I'm coming 20 this year they don't believe. Wahaha!!!
The classic scenerio:
A: So do you earn commission for sales?
Me: Nope. I'm only here part time.
A: Oh... So what do you study?
Me: IT.
A: Year 2?
Me: No lah... I just finished last week.
A: So you're not 18 this year??? Serious?!?!? (Starts counting...)
Me: Ya... I'm 20 this year. =)
A: Oh... So no wonder you haven't started looking for full time job? Need job come find me.
Me: Underage lah... Your company requirement is 21 right?
A: Next year lor. I didn't ask you earlier cause I thought you were still halfway through school.

Here I am, spending money myself. There Ade was helping me spend my money. I asked her to help me go down to I Nuovi's private sales on my behalf to help me buy the make up box, lip gloss to get the free brushes. Yeah! Got my big box with all the compartments to store make up.
